Matt is a New York based Singer, Songwriter & Guitarist who draws influences from pre and
post war Blues & Traditional Jazz artists.
He performs arrangements of classics from the American Songbook combined with authentic
original songs true to the artists of 190o’s – 1940’s.
Matt Wiffen was born and raised in England but drawn to the American songbook from an early
age. He draws influences from pre and post war Blues & Traditional Jazz artists.
Moving to the U.S.A. in 2002, gave Matt the opportunity to travel the country extensively.
Immersing himself in American music history and culture. Those travels inspired numerous
songs from real-life experiences.
Matt writes authentic melodies and lyrics reminiscent of the great country blues and Traditional
Jazz artists of yesteryear. His approach is a refreshing return to American roots music.
He is an accomplished acoustic, slide and twelve string acoustic guitar player. You will hear the
influence of American heavyweights Blind Blake, Big Bill Broonzy, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith,
Memphis Minnie, Son House, Blind Willie McTell, Robert Johnson and many others during his
powerful & exciting performances.
You can find Matt performing regularly solo or with other musicians in New York City and
Brooklyn in local bars, restaurants and events where he has a number of monthly residences.
