Chicago is the city where the blues went electric, and Chicago Blues Hall of Famer Paul Filipowicz learned from the people who made it happen. Paul was born in Chicago and first saw live blues in ’64 or ’65, standing outside a club on Chicago’s South Side listening to Otis Rush. Entranced, he learned the same way all the early blues masters did-by ear.
Playing on the circuit left the young musician with incredible memoires, including shows with Jimmy Dawkins, Hound Dog Taylor, Mighty Joe Young, Lefty Dizz and Luther Allison.
After 50 years of fronting his own band, Paul has played all over the U.S. a tour of Mongolia and released 12 critically-acclaimed albums. Paul’s original slashing guitar style has become a landmark in the industry, warranting comparisons in top publications to such greats as John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, and Magic Sam.
This seasoned pro continues to rack up awards and accolades, including, CHICAGO BLUES HALL OF FAME 2015, Illinois Rout 66 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2021 and Wisconsin Blues Hall of Fame 2023. Paul has become one of the greats who will inspire the next generation of young players. www.paulfilipowicz.com
